Do i have to enter my pin to complete transaction at a shop with visa electron debit card? or just swap it?

my maestro card requires me2 enter the pin during completing transaction at a shop(not online). but mastercard needs just swapping and signing receipt which is less safer as any1 can use it incase card is stolen. what is the procedure for visa electron debit card?
