Double stroller on Air France?

We are travelling on Air France from Detroit to Paris this week and are wondering whether we can check a double stroller at the gate? It's pretty bulky (40x22x19), but with a 3 year and a 3 month old, diaper bag, car seats, and other carry-ons, we really have to bring it to the gate. Any experiences you can share?
