Power amp size to run 300watt speakers?

we are setting up our own little disco in our club and im no dj or music maestro so can someone please tell me what power amplifier do we need to run 300watt speakers and should the speaker wires be 12 gauge (short distance from speakers to amplifier)any info of dos and donts i would be grateful for
